The Use of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages on Developing the Speaking Skills

Abstract

The European Council has suggested the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and its implementation, the European Language Portfolio. The purpose of this study is to improve the speaking skills course at Gazi Education Faculty, Foreign Languages Teaching Department, Division of English Language Teaching. In the research, a program has been developed to offer a new method for the speaking skills. Then, a pre test, post test and a retention test that are at B2 level have been administered to the students. The results obtained after the implementation have been assessed statistically and ,05 significant level has been taken into account for all the statistical analyses. According to the results, the new program has been proved to be more effective than the traditional speaking skills program. Therefore, suggestions will be offered based on the results of the study.
