The Suitability of Science Textbooks to Pupils' Educational Level And Reading Age

Abstract

This century is an era of scientific and technological development, and human progress requires us to gain and develop abilities in positive criticism. The life sciences have important effects on most technological and scientific developments, so it is particularly important that science and technology be taught in school in a manner suited to the pupils' educational development. Textbooks that are important in giving information should be prepared clearly and it is important that pupils' be able to understand them. Therefore science textbooks should be suited to the pupils' educational level and reading age. In this study the suitability of science textbooks used in primary and secondary schools is discussed, using readability formulae from the literature.
