Developing Critical Thinking Skills

Abstract

The aims of this research are to determine if the doctorate students of various institutes of Fırat University have critical thinking skills, and to find out if the two education courses, “Development and Learning” and “Planning and Assessment in Instruction” offered in the same term help to develop critical thinking. For this aim, “The Scale of Critical Thinking Skills” is used. The KMO (Kaiser- Meyer- Olkin) value of the scale is 0.75 and Cronbach Alpha Coefficient is 0.90. The results have revealed that the above mentioned courses help to develop critical thinking skills. It has been observed that students develop their critical thinking skills if they are encouraged to carry out research, to ask questions in the class, and to discuss issues in the class
