Abstract

In this study, the Social Skills Rating Scale of SSRS-Parent Form for 6 to 12 years old, developed by Gresham and Elliott (1990), were adapted to Turkish, and validity and reliability studies were conducted based on the data obtained from 562 mothers who have children with mental retardation. An exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were applied, and in addition, item-total correlations and the Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficients were calculated. The findings indicated that factor structures of the Social Skills Scale and Problem Behavior Scale included by the SSRS were consistent with the results of factor analysis conducted by Gresham and Elliott (1990). The findings reveal that SSRS-Parent Form is a valid and reliable instrument to be used by parents.
