A Study on the Classification Accuracy of Art Teaching Special Aptitude Exams

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine whether calculation of students’ special aptitude placement scores, which are used in the placement of students in the fine art programs, reflect the original sub-score weights set by the Student Selection and Placement Center (SSPC). A total number of 305 art teacher candidates’ placement sub-scores constitute the data for this study. Results of the logistic regression analysis suggest that actual weights of the placement sub-scores depart from the original weights set by the SSPC. This study provides an alternative placement calculation score in which all the sub-scores are converted in the same scale before calculating the final placement score. The findings show that the proposed calculation method better discriminates, classifies (89.5% vs. 99.7%) and predicts the group membership.
